OddNotes Privacy Policy

Last updated October 23, 2026

OddNotes is a place to text yourself notes, share some of them with people you choose, and ask AI about them. This page says what the app keeps, where, and who can see it. In short: your notes live on your phone, shared notes are end-to-end encrypted, and we don't sell your data or show you ads.

Your notes

Notes you keep to yourself (My Notes), with their photos, files, voice notes and lists, are stored on your iPhone. They are not uploaded to our servers.

Shared notes

When you share a note, its messages, photos, files and voice notes are encrypted on your phone before they are sent, with a key that only the people in that note have. The key travels inside the invite link, after the “#”, which browsers never send to a server. Our server stores and relays the encrypted contents so everyone in the note stays in sync, but cannot read them.

To make sharing work, our server does see: which accounts are in which shared notes, when changes are made, the name you give yourself (shown to people in your shared notes), and the device token we use to send you notifications.

Your account

You can use OddNotes without an account. If you share a note, the app quietly makes a guest account so the note can sync. If you create an account, we keep the email address or Sign in with Apple identifier you use, and your name. Emailed sign-in codes are sent through an email delivery service.

You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account → Delete Account. That removes your account, your sessions and devices, and your membership in shared notes from our server.

Asking AI

When you ask about your notes, the app can answer with Private AI, which runs entirely on your iPhone, or with Cloud AI. When Cloud AI answers, your question and the notes needed to answer it are sent through our server to a third-party AI provider to produce the answer. We don't store your questions or the notes sent with them; we only keep a count of questions per account and network for an hour, to prevent abuse. Our AI provider does not use them to train its models.

Contacts, photos, camera and microphone

The app asks for these only when you use the feature that needs them: choosing people to invite, attaching photos, taking a picture, or recording a voice note. Contacts are read on your phone to help you pick people and are not uploaded. Voice notes are transcribed on your phone.

Usage data

To learn which parts of OddNotes get used and what to improve, the app sends our server a record of what you do in it: for example that a note was saved, and whether it was a photo or a list; that a search was made, and whether a result was opened; that a question was answered, and by which AI. It also sends the app's version, the iPhone's model and system version, and a random number made when the app was installed, so a day's activity can be counted once.

These records never contain what you write, search for or ask, the names of your notes or tags, your contacts, or anything that identifies you. They aren't linked to your account, go only to our own server (not to any analytics company), and are used only to improve OddNotes. You can turn this off in Settings → Usage Data.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, we keep your device's notification token so we can tell you when something changes in a shared note. You can mute a shared note or turn notifications off in Settings → Notifications.
